Andrew is a full time web developer and graphic artist. He is from Frankfort, Kentucky where he graduated from Franklin County High School (1998) and Georgetown College (2002). He enjoys pretty much any sport, but spent the majority of his life playing baseball. In high school, he started playing the drums and once his baseball-playing days ended in college, his passion for music kicked in. To this day, he still plays in a couple of bands and enjoys going to concerts. He’s also a computer geek, enjoys studying Christian theology, and of course, is a UK basketball (and football) fan.
Julie is a Masters student in the counseling department at Asbury, as well as a barista at the Kentucky Coffeetree Cafe. She is from Ashland, Ky, where most of her family still lives. She spent two years at Georgetown College as an Art Major (her freshman year being Andrew’s senior year…hmmm) and then transferred to Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City. She loves her roommate, Ashleigh, and all of the gracious friends that God has given in each season of life. She enjoys being outside, running, art, and an especially good cup of coffee…and her fiancé.
We are a modern couple. We weren’t high school sweethearts, and even though we were at Georgetown College together, we didn’t meet each other in a traditional way. We met on Facebook.
During the summer of 2008, mutual friends of Andrew and Julie mentioned Julie’s name to Andrew. Their goal was to set up a group date for them to meet each other. Andrew isn’t known for having any patience whatsoever, and the planning of the group date was taking entirely too long, in his opinion. He found Julie on Facebook and sent her a friend request. Initially, Julie had no idea who Andrew was, so she didn’t accept the friend request. After one of her friends informed her that Andrew would be getting in touch with her, she decided he wasn’t crazy and accepted the friend request.
On October 2, 2008, Andrew sent Julie (or, Julia, as he called her by her real name) a Facebook message. This started a three-week back-and-forth between the couple. Some days, there would be three or four messages of novel length, as both of them asked question after question about the other. At the end of the three weeks, deciding that neither person was crazy, Andrew decided to ask Julie out on a date. Julie accepted.
We met in person for the first time on Friday, October 24th. We met in Lexington at the Hamburg Johnny Carino’s. After spending three hours over dinner and conversation (and Julie thinking Andrew talked a lot), we decided to continue the date at the nearby Starbucks. For two more hours, they enjoyed each other’s company and conversation. As the night came to an end, we both decided to “do this again sometime.” After spending following week’s Friday and Saturday together, our dating relationship began.
After several months of continuing to get to know each other and falling in love, Andrew and Julie were engaged on Saturday, September 19, 2009. We were married on New Year’s Eve 2009.
